CRFT Australia

Founded in 2012, CRFT is the culmination of a long-held dream between winemakers Candice Helbig and Frewin Ries, who met in 2005 and married in 2014. Based out of Carey Gully in the Adelaide Hills, they wanted to champion the incredible diversity of soils and climates across South Australia’s sub-regions, at times even in sites separated by just a few hundred metres.

CRFT Wines express the place where it started and the uniqueness that comes from individual sites. Each wine is made from grapes picked from a single vineyard and every bottle becomes an honest reflection of that one specific location, an untarnished sample of soil, aspect and season. Candice & Frewin source fruit from seven vineyards across the Adelaide Hills and Eden Valley, along with their home Arranmore block which has newly been certified organic. Just two to three tonnes are picked from each block and wines are produced in small batches of about 2,000 bottles, with all wines hand picked, fermented on indigenous yeast and bottled unfiltered, unfined and with minimal sulphur.

Candice and Frewin have a unique and incredible drive to show off the diversity of South Australia from a site-specific point of view. What strikes us time and time again when tasting their wines is how clean, polished and expressive they can be whilst remaining absolute purists when it comes to expression of terroir. There are very few in the Adelaide Hills and indeed South Australia as a whole who are so focused on single-vineyard diversity across single varieties but multiple sites and it is a pleasure for us to work with some of South Australia’s finest ‘new guard’ producers.
