Roero DOC 'Sanche'

  • Roero DOC 'Sanche'

    Nebbiolo

From 75 year old vines on the steep amphitheatre-like south facing vineyard 'Sanche' one of the two most famous Roero hills. This wine is powerful but delicate thanks to the very poor sandy soils which promote a real openness of aromatics and texture. Macerated in concrete for 30 days with twice daily pump-overs, then aged in neutral oak for 16 months. The most vertical of the wines, with tremendous length on the palate. The nose delivers all the tar and roses one hopes for, with baking spices and a bright fruit note. The palate is firmer than the Langhe but in Nebbiolo terms it's completely accessible now, the tannins fine and mouth coating, but the freshness of the wine makes its texture pleasant and moreish. With air, even on the second day, this wine is a delight to smell, so pretty and all class.
